NOTES FROM THE ROAD...
I'm here in the ghost town of Quincy, Illinois because it's a little over half way between Nashville, Tennessee and Mason City, Iowa. I'm at a lovely and newly re-modeled Microtel Inn and about a mile from here, there's a Starbucks for my morning addiction (sorry moms & pops, I generally have more of a conscious than cooperate America, but it's the only consistently good coffee I can find on the big bad road!) Right next to it, there's a Panera Bread for lunch and for soaking up all that free wi-fi I can so I can't complain : ) Meanwhile, the tour has been great thus far, featuring fun house concerts, good old southern hospitality and stellar singer/songwriters "in-the-round." Of course, nobody in Nashville will ever know quite how stellar the other two artists I performed with the other night were because no one was there to see it... Where's all the support in the music capital of the country? I beg of you, please come on out and support your independent artists because we're far from home and gas isn't getting any cheaper! I'm a bit behind with the video blog as I tend to fall behind with everything on the road but here's a fun update from Durham, NC last week : )
RADIOHEAD REMIX CONTEST... PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!!
I wanted to let you all know that Radiohead is hosting a contest that I have just entered encouraging folks to create their own remix of "Nude," a song from Radioheads latest album "In Rainbows." I figured there would be lots of instrumental remixes so I took a more classic Gregory Douglass-esque vocal harmony approach with my remix, please check it out... The top 10 versions with the most votes will be listened to by the guys in Radiohead which would be quite an honor so PLEASE cast your vote for me! I will be forever grateful...
UPDATES FROM THE STUDIO :: FULL-LENGTH ALBUM #7...
As I mentioned, I've been busy writing and recording lots of new material for the my seventh full-length studio album all winter long. It's been a very productive and musically inspiring winter, but a tedious one as well... It's nice to see signs of spring way up here in the north! As I gear up for the spring tour, I'll be putting these new songs on hold until I get back.
I'm thrilled to announce that there is a new game plan for the summer when I introduce my good friend Syd to the album project as my co-producer in crime! I've created a nice foundation for all these new songs but I'm ready to swallow my pride and acknowledge my strengths/weaknesses within the recording process. Along with being an accomplished singer/songwriting virtuoso in his own right, he is also a fine producer and is just the man for the job : ) Check Syd out at: http://www.sydband.com On a side note, he recently recorded an amazing cover version of my song "Sail The Sea" and it's available on his latest release, "The Way We Found It," the perfect solution for upcoming spring & summer playlist needs I might add...
I'm still aiming for a Spring, 2009 release for this album; I'm not sure what to call it yet but there will be plenty of winter-induced, introspective landscapes involved, along with a few more playfully brooding, cabaret numbers ; )
GREGORY ON ACOUSTIC CAFE:
I'm featured on the new "Acoustic Cafe" syndicated radio show this month! There's live performance and a juicy conversation between Acoustic Cafe host, Rob Reinhart and myself about new ways independent artists are doing things in this ever-changing industry, please check it out: http://www.mlive.com/cafe/index.ssf/2008/03/gregory_douglass.html
NEW GREGORY DOUGLASS MERCHANDISE...
Check out my new line of Gregory Douglass merchandise... I mean, haven't you always wanted a neck tie with me on it? ; )
