Music At Work offers an exclusive, ongoing sneak-peek into new songs on the horizon. All song titles and lyrics are subject to change, evolve, or disappear entirely over time, but I want to share some of the beginning stages of the creative process with you in real-time.
Here are lyrics from a new song in development with the working title “All I Want.” I built the foundation around a drum loop and a warm synth pad in Ableton Live, and I hear it being produced almost akin to a Depeche Mode or Cocteau Twins 80’s-esque power ballad.
All I Want
by Gregory Douglass
Treason, calling every angel
Rousing up a storm in my heaven
Vertigo from the window
Careful not to let go of my faith
And now it makes me wonder
Could I have been all I wanted?
Or could I be all I want?
Could I have been all I wanted?
Or could I be all I want?
All I want, all that purity that remains
All I want, all the rhythm inside my veins
All I want, all the purity that remains
All I want, all the rhythm inside, the rhythm inside
Oh, the life I’ve made
Who am I with what remains?
Silently we walk the plank in vain
Well I won’t take it anymore
There’s something better in store
There must be
But still it makes me wonder
Could I have been all I wanted?
Or could I be all I want?
Could I have been all I wanted?
Or could I be all I want?
All I want, all that purity that remains
All I want, all the rhythm inside my veins
All I want, all the purity that remains
All I want, all the rhythm inside, the rhythm inside
